Tranquilo

Challenge:
Cannabis is extremely regulated in California. There was a laundry list of specifications concerning the inclusion and display of various information, dosage levels, and regulated California-consistent warning graphics. Cannabis customers, with typically little to go on when choosing edible cannabis products, must rely heavily on packaging to guide strength and experience.

Tranquilo is a cannabis edibles company based in California. They had an existing logo which they wanted to retain but wanted simple bold-color packaging that followed with recent design trends relevant in 2019. But most importantly, they wanted striking branding and packaging that moved product.

Solution:
I convinced the client to use a unique color on each product, as well as a subtle unique pattern for each. This exploited the metallic effect of the mylar child-resistant packaging which had already been selected for use by the client.

The bags were printed in this order: 1) metallic bag base layer, 2) solid white pattern at 20% transparency, 3) complete solid color (4-process) layer over top.
Printing this way on the metallic mylar created an extremely varied reflective effect with each unique pattern in different types of light, causing the design to dance in and out of the color portion while the silver portions of the packaging glint separately at unique angles.

Effect:
Client reported sales had tripled during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, and repeatedly thanked me for the design.
