Title: Cove Type I
Signage at the piece read as follows:
The Cove welcomes you into its open gape. What secrets will you find beyond on the next step of your journey? What magic?
Fifth Third Bank reached out about creating a piece to decorate the bar area in Fountain Square (which is right outside of their building in Cincinnati) as their contribution to BLINK Cincinnati 2024. The concept was actually a modification of a proposal previously submitted to 3CDC (who manages the square) as part of a tiered series of proposals to do art in the area. The original concept meant to use only one color of yarn to ensure the form remained cohesive, but Fifth Third wanted to have their branding colors be part of the design.
I used a chunky type of non-fluorescent blue yarn and white (which fluoresces blue under UV light) as the base layer in addition to some fluorescent green to match the main Fifth Third colors. I then used a few more colors and a multi-color fluorescent yarn to finish out the area. My main installation for BLINK was at Findlay Market, and a totally different installation by a different group was featured at Fountain Square. This piece was meant as a simple decoration for the bar area.
The concept was an expanded version of the piece created for the BLINK Memorial Hall donor event.
