Interstellar Music and Arts Festival 2022
Interstellar 2022 was an upgrade in scale from the 2021 edition, which included a move to the defunct Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky. The scale of the speedway’s grounds and grandstands, which can hold 120,000 attendees, was imposing at all times. With all that in mind I created a piece that was very large in scale to complement the location. The piece also used among the largest amounts of yarn I’ve used for any installation so far.
The color scheme used reds, pinks, blues and purples (which all reacted to UV light) to blend with the Interstellar branding.
A huge storm came through immediately after setup was initially finished. The piece needed some tightening, but the storm pushed the issue to the forefront and several hours after were dedicated to adjustment. I also discovered during that time the difficulty associated with attempting to burn through wet acrylic yarn using an electric arc lighter.
