Resonate Suwannee 2023
Resonate Suwannee is a festival held in northern Florida at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, which hosts more than a dozen different music festivals each year.
Resonate is thrown largely by the same people who run Resonance Music and Arts Festival for years, and was originally started as way to promote Resonance during COVID-era social distancing worries.
The 2023 version of the event featured an artist, art-vendor and art-installation area to the upper right of the park’s legendary amphitheater stage. I was tasked with putting up an installation in this space and chose to unify the space with a cohesive piece that delineated the boundaries of the area. A two-color fade was chosen (yellow-to-orange, although yellow fluoresces nearly green under UV light), to draw people deeper into the space and invite them to explore all it has to offer.
After the piece was set up, a laser technician called Laser Fox set up three different laser boxes in the area. The interplay between the lasers and the yarn in the space proved to create some exciting effects. From certain angles the yarn appeared to spontaneously illuminate as if it contained some form of LED light within the strands themselves. See for yourself below.
