2024 Was seemingly a year for pushing my limits. This piece was one of the largest I’ve ever attempted, though it was split into several sections. The total length was almost 400′ from end to end and required four days to build with multiple helpers.
I’ve been going to Legend Valley for years and I’ve always looked at this area at the top of the hill and wondered what kind of yarn I would add to it if given the opportunity. Careful what you wish for, and this install was plagued with bespoke problems though ultimately turned out ok.
The concept was to guide people into the festival, with color and brightness intensifying as you get closer to the concert grounds. At the top of the hill was a conic portal of pink, implying something has come through the wormhole and onto this plane of existence. Along the entrance pathway I created a wall that curved and zig-zagged various directions and guided people deeper into their own Secret Dream. From the top of the hill down was a ceiling of fuschia, then a multicolor yarn with black sections, and finally a bright multicolor yarn without black sections. Again, the goal was an intensification as people get closer to the action of the festival.
A separate group came in and added paracord nets which were woven around old trampoline frames, as well as some hanging swings and woven hanging art pieces. Everything worked very well together, creating a zone that invited people in. The ceiling sections were playfully separated from the world thanks to the curvy wall along the path.
I had plans to add walls between each of these roof sections and integrate my UV laser, but between weather delays and problems with workers I was forced to scale back. The entire piece had a massive footprint overall and to date is one of the largest I’ve ever created.
