I attended Sound Haven in 2023 and created an installation while only recognizing maybe three names on the lineup. I enjoy bass music but it’s not my first choice and typically requires more work on my part to “get into” those kinds of shows or experiences. However, I left Sound Haven 2023 describing it admirably as a nice avant-garde bass event. The festival puts its focus on soundsystems and production above everything else (to the dismay of parking/camping needs) and it’s a very relaxed environment with an experienced raver crowd. I’m a huge fan of high-fidelity music and Sound Haven was a very entertaining experience for me in 2024 with minimal effort.
For the second year I created a piece around the 3rd stage, curated by Kouch Kollective and their team, which was located in the woods. This year we went larger, creating a large tunnel that distorted perceptions of the wooded area that contained it. This stage had music at night this year so I was also able to use my new 3W UV laser for the first time at this event in addition to a number of UV lights.
This piece was very well received and held up well through a weekend of occasional rain storms.
The area behind the yarn was very sloppy, so the yarn was used as a type of barrier to prevent attempted entry into this mud pit.
