Sundry & Vice 2020 Quarantine Patio

Installation created when intentions aligned with a Cincinnati cocktail bar manager who was in search of a yarn bombing to bring business to the side-street location during the 2020 pandemic downturn and quarantine. While indoor capacity was cut with COVID-19 restrictions the city provided orange construction barricades for restaurants and bars to create makeshift outdoor areas to retain a suitable capacity. Installation had to fit around constraints of the makeshift outdoor patio available pre-existing physical attachment points on a fire escape and two separate telephone poles.

Goal was to attract attention and generate foot traffic, and management reported business upswing following installation. Channel 9 WCPO did a story on the piece and the situation surrounding the need for such an installation around a temporary outdoor patio during a pandemic. View story HERE.

Estimated lifespan was only 30 days but piece lasted in very good condition with minimal repairs for 72 days (9/10 – 11/21) before being removed for the addition of outdoor heaters and shelter as weather changed to winter.
